About…

.The Capital City of Malta, Valletta, was founded in 1566 by Military Commander Jean de Parisot Valette. In terms of the southernmost capitals of Europe, Valletta is second only to Nicosia, so guests can expect good weather all year round. Being just over half a square kilometre it is also one of the European Union's smallest Capital cities. Valletta’s style & allure is heightened by its distinctive Baroque character, where many prominent and historic buildings can be found, including the impressive Phoenicia Malta Hotel.

The Phoenicia Malta is a member of the prestigious ‘Leading Hotels of the World’, due to its offering as a 5-Star luxury Hotel. The Hotel itself maintains exceptional views of the Grand Harbour, which is said to have not changed since the 16th Century. Being within the epicentre of Valetta, you are walking distance iconic attractions such as Saint John's Co-Cathedral, Grand Master's Palace and the National Museum of Archaeology.

The Phoenicia Malta has a total of 136 luxury bedrooms & suites that have retained much of their original features like the authentic tiled floors. Many of these rooms have direct views of the Grand Harbour and Valletta, so please let us know what your party desire when booking.

Being awarded a 5-Star status doesn’t come easily, so please expect nothing but the best during your stay at The Phoenicia Malta. For instance, revel in the new Deep Nature Spa where detailed & lavish treatments can be booked and guests can make use of the salt room, sauna, steam room and multi-jet showers - all within an environment that uses materials like walnut timber, marble and Maltese stone. After being pampered, feel free to make use of either the indoor or outdoor swimming pool and get your pump on by using state-of-the-art equipment in the gym.

If you are travelling to appreciate the exquisite cuisine of Malta and fancy dining out on the iconic Stuffat Tal-Fenek (Traditional Rabbit Stew), Kapunata (Maltese Ratatouille) or Pastizzi (Traditional Savoury Pastry) you will certainly be pleased to know that you are amongst several mouth-watering restaurants. The Hotel offers a range of eateries from the elegant Phoenix Restaurant to the more relaxed Bastion Pool Bar & Restaurant.

A stay at The Phoenicia and Malta is perfectly encapsulated by the Maltese proverb, ‘Fejn thobb il-qalb jimxu r-riglejn’ or ‘Where the heart loves, that's where the legs walk’!

Map & Location…

Malta has a fascinating and diverse history, as these set of islands have been occupied by the likes of The Phoenicians, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Normans and French. Finally, the British rule in Malta ended in 1964 when Malta became independent and as a result Malta implemented the British system of public administration, education and legislation. Today there remains strong ties between Malta and Britain!

As for things to keep you occupied whilst you’re in Malta, you will be pleased to know that every part of the island of Malta is accessible by either public transport or car. You will have to split your time precisely, as its likely that you will want to visit Auberge de Castille, Casa Rocca Piccola, Fort St. Elmo, Ggantija Temples, Ghar Dalam Cave, Manoel Theatre, Marsaxlokk, Mdina, Mosta Dome, Palazzo Parisio and Gardens, San Anton Gardens, St John’s Co-Cathedral, Tarxien Temples and/or the Upper Barrakka Gardens. Remember, Valletta was declared the Capital City of Culture in Europe during 2018, so you are in the nucleus of Malta’s riches.

One adventure that Travel Matters certainly does recommend is a trip to Gozo. This island that is often known as the ‘Sister’ of Malta is a short ferry ride from the main island and is an oasis of beauty. If you enjoy rugged coastlines, crystal clear waters and quiet sandy beaches, this is a day-trip not to miss out on!
