About…

Pickwell Manor is a project conceived by the Baker & Elliot families, who wanted to embrace the historical importance of the Estate and make it available to like-minded holiday goers. Settled amongst the striking Devon countryside, this 6-acre Estate is blessed with its own charming gardens and delightful nearby landmarks like of Putsborough Beach and the Georgeham Village.

Remarkably, the Estate is mentioned in the Domesday Book and dates back to the 10th Century, which is noticeable in its Anglo-Saxon features. Former famous and infamous residents may have included Edmar to the Norman Knights, Mauger St.Aubyn and a cohort of Thomas Beckett’s assassins. Infact, during the full moon of December 29th, folklore has it that three headless Knights can be seen riding from Pickwell to the beach…spooky stuff!

In order to retain Grade II listed status and Jacobean style, many of Pickwell’s accommodations have been separated. If you’re looking for a romantic getaway or just some special time with the family, but with a twist, perhaps you should consider the Treehouse rooms - The Hideaway, The Loft and The Den. Yes, they are nestled amongst the trees! The ten apartments are available for a more conventional stay and can accommodate up to ten guests and are dog friendly.

The Gardens at Pickwell are sublime! Both the Walled & Italian Garden showcase exquisitely maintained mature shrubs, flowers and Rose arches. It’s like being transported to a fairytale-like setting! The views from these Gardens’ are also unparalleled, as views of Baggy Point, Hartland Point, and Lundy Island are all possible. In contrast, if you turn your head to the West, you might be surprised to see Woodland & Forestry, which are home to some of Devon’s more renowned ecology and wildlife.

What we urge you to do is enjoy a barbecue with your family & friends, amongst the benches that are provided by Pickwell. From here, take in all the natural beauty and allow the evening to trickle into the early hours of the morning!

Map & Location…

North Devon is a treasure in the South-West of England. It really is a playground for those who adore the outdoors & nature, particularly with Exmoor, National Trust Coastlines and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty within the immediate locale.

The Folks at Pickwell have assured us that there’s plenty to, so as; Adventure Challenges, Beach Volleyball (Croyde Beach), Clay Pigeon Shooting, Climbing, Coasteering, Cycling, Golf, Fishing, Horse Riding, Kayaking, Kite Surfing, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Surfing and much more!

For a bit of culture, daytrips to Clovelly and Hartland Abbey & Gardens are suggested. Not only do their woodland and gardens make for a pleasant afternoon, but local exhibitions and cafes & restaurants mean you can make a real day out of it.
