About…

Up along the southern shore of Firth of Forth, in East Lothian, an enchanting six-acred estate called Greywalls can be found. Originally designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1901, the Hotel offers a charming level of service and accommodations for guests all year round. Its owner, Alfred Lyttelton, commissioned Lutyens to construct a traditionally styled home that was moments away from the eighteenth green at Muirfield. Today the Hotel draws in lovers of the outdoors, keen golf enthusiasts and holidaymakers who desire charming service & decor. Greywalls is also noted as one of the best dining experiences in the region (more about that later!).

Greywalls Hotel extends an invitation to all guests to stay in one of their ornate rooms or suites. Each of these 17 rooms & suites is furnished with oddities & antiques that are seamlessly blended into modern day staples such as a television, phone and en-suite bathroom. For larger groups or more intimate stays, Greywalls have a selection of rooms detached from the main building. The Colonel's House can be found around 500 yards from the Hotel and offers a more opulent and exclusive stay. Greywalls also has a set of four delightfully airy Cottage Rooms, which can be booked for larger groups who are celebrating a special occasion.

We like to remind our guests that a stay at Greywalls is about more than just your bedroom...think fine dining, relaxing spa treatments, Whisky tours, North Sea Voyages and of course the famous golfing scene. Greywalls and Travel Matters are here to assist with any of your concierge related queries!

Travel Matters Highlights…

Greywalls and Muirfield have been decorated as the first Scottish location with a Chez Roux Restaurant. Pretty amazing! If part of your holiday revolves around fine dining, impeccably locally sourced produce and unforgettable meals, we urge you to make a reservation...maybe two or three! Scotland has a rich history within the culinary institution, so allow Chez Roux to showcase some of the best ingredients from the region whilst you enjoy roast salmon with fennel ravioli, pickled Mooli and lobster sauce or venison with blue cheese gnocchi & almond Skirlie.

Historically, Muirfield has organised & hosted The Open Championship sixteen times. Some of 'The Greats' have attended this event with the likes of Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Nick Faldo, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Harold Hilton all staking their claim as victors. Greywells has a significant link with top class golf, as it is located on the boundary of Muirfield and is within a few miles of the Championship Golf Courses of Gullane, Luffness, North Berwick, Renaissance and Archerfield. Guests at the Hotel are able to revel in the seclusion of the beautifully sculptured scenery, which overlooks the 18th green of Muirfield.

Map & Location…

The Firth of Forth is an Estuary or Fjord (firth), which is comprised of several Scottish rivers that flow into the North Sea with Fife on the north coast and Lothian on the south. Within this striking area of East Lothian you can find the charming town of Gullane, which is primarily known for its prestigious beach at Gullane Bents. The town is also highly regarded within the world of Golf, so this might be the perfect opportunity to take up the sport…putter late than never!

Being a neighbour of Edinburgh, East Lothian has adopted a slightly slower pace to life compared to that of the country's capital. This enables guests to have a truly intimate experience with one of Scotland's most cherished gifts - its landscape. Being coastal, East Lothian has a number of fine beaches; including Belhaven, Seacliff and The John Muir Way. An even more impressive trip might involve getting a boat to Bass Rock, to witness a show of stunning birdlife. Heading more inland will enable visitors to hike up to the mid-14th-Century ruined fortress at Tantallon Castle, where there are unparalleled views of North Berwick. If you are with a younger family, Travel Matters suggests a day visit to East Links Family Park for safari type days out and a trip to the National Museum of Flight, where you will struggle to find a more superior collection of aircraft.

Scotland possesses some of the more beautiful countryside within the the British Isles! You may be surprised by what it can offer to a family or group of friends for a domestic holiday booking.
