Built in 1867 as a Victorian home and hunting lodge, by the Macdonald Clan, Duisdale House later became a hotel in 1900. With an undeniably rich history, the hotel stands amongst strikingly landscaped gardens, 30 acres of ancient forestry and even has historic remains scattered around the estate. Leaving its prestigious past behind, as you step into the hotel you will be greeted by a contemporary and lovingly restored boutique space. Duisdale House Hotel boasts a range of elegant and individually designed rooms and suites. For couples seeking a sprinkle of romance, Travel Matters suggests Duisdale House Hotel’s intimate Lodges. These Lodges provide an airy 28 square metres of space to swan around in. The king sized beds are fitted with 600 Egyptian cotton sheets and there are excellent views of the immediate highlands. For a greater degree of opulence, please consider the ‘Master Suite’, which has an impressive floor space of 60 square metres. Finally, for a group of friends or a family, the luxury ‘Cottage’ presents guests with up to 3 beds in 41 square metres of space to lounge in. Not only will you have the ideal setup for your extended party, but you will also have the privacy of being located in the Hotel’s more discreet part of the estate.

Yes, dining at Duisdale House Hotel is an experience! The 2 AA Rosette on-site restaurant is known regionally for its appetising Scottish cuisine, which sources the finest local ingredients to create dishes that showcase the flavours of the Highlands. Guests are welcome to savour their meals in the intimate dining room or on the terrace, which overlooks the lush gardens and the shimmering waters of the Sound of Sleat. An evening of wonderful dining would not be complete without a nightcap, so amble to the Chart Room. Here you will be have the choice of a wide range of Scottish Whisky, Gin and Wine…the perfect way to wind down!

Sonas Hotel Collection and Duisdale House Hotel are truly embracing Sustainability!

As of February 2023, Duisdale House Hotel welcomed its new Head Chef, Stephen Crichton. Upon his arrival, Stephen introduced the Hotel’s new “Sustainable and Seasonal Menu”. This innovative organic menu elevates flavours & ingredients that are local to the hotel and to Isle of Skye. Guests can enjoy Scottish Chanterelle Mushrooms, Samphire, Borage Flowers and Wild Garlic. Showcased on the menu are such dishes as a starter of “Scorched Mackerel, with Celeriac Remoulade” and a main of “Roast Beetroot and Candied Lemmon Zest, Cannon of Lochalsh Lamb with Rosti, Savoy Cabbage, Parsnip Puree and Dunvegan Venison Loin with Caramelised Cauliflower, Poached Pear and Blue Cheese”…wow, what a mouthful!

Some of our other favourite sustainable initiatives include –

  • The hotel’s kitchen gardens and Polytunnels grow fresh herbs and vegetables for the kitchen. This on-site practice allows the hotel to reduce its carbon footprint by sourcing produce locally and minimising transportation emissions while promoting sustainable and organic food practices

  • Local sourcing, such as supporting local businesses and purchasing food and products locally help reduce the carbon footprint associated with transportation and benefit the local economy. Ask about the hotel’s long established relationship with a fish mongers in Sleat and their delicious Loch Eishort Mussels

  • Duisdale House Hotel education & awareness policy assists & educates their guests and staff about sustainability practices and encourages them to participate in conservation efforts during their stay.
