Set
in eight hectares of landscaped parkland, AlmaVerde Spa is
at the heart of a complex of amenities designed to meet the
year-round health, fitness and leisure needs of both residents
and guests. AlmaVerde is planned as a low density community,
with only ten percent of the total area designated for building.

With
the benefit of many years of successful low energy design
experience, the team has developed a new building specification
tailored to local climatic conditions. Building materials
and systems have been carefully selected and combined for
their thermal and insulating properties, as well as for their
beauty, durability and cost. Specification options include
natural, renewable materials such as cork for insulation and
adobe for thermal mass. Contributing to this effort is The
Coolhouse Project, an EU-funded partnership of environmental
engineers and architects working to develop low energy alternatives
to domestic air conditioning.

This
split-level, open-plan design is ideal for entertaining. Steps
lead up from the spacious living area to the kitchen and dining
areas, with a further short stairway giving access to the
large upper gallery. This gallery opens through patio doors
onto a sheltered upper terrace. Two of the three double bedrooms
have their own en-suite facilities, while a fourth room can
be used as a study, family room or occasional bedroom. Double
patio doors lead from the living area to the outside terrace,
pool and garden areas.
