Villa Luz - Casuarina & Grande  

Set in eight hectares of landscaped parkland, AlmaVerde Spa is at the heart of a complex of amenities designed to meet the year-round health, fitness and leisure needs of both residents and guests. AlmaVerde is planned as a low density community, with only ten percent of the total area designated for building.

With the benefit of many years of successful low energy design experience, the team has developed a new building specification tailored to local climatic conditions. Building materials and systems have been carefully selected and combined for their thermal and insulating properties, as well as for their beauty, durability and cost. Specification options include natural, renewable materials such as cork for insulation and adobe for thermal mass. Contributing to this effort is The Coolhouse Project, an EU-funded partnership of environmental engineers and architects working to develop low energy alternatives to domestic air conditioning.

A central feature of Villa Luz is the sheltered inner courtyard, which, together with permeability of the living spaces, gives the house a tremendous feeling of space and light. Arches lead from the hallway to the large eat-in kitchen.

There is open access from the kitchen to the formal dining area, with arches also leading from the hallway and dining area to the spacious main living area. Over this area, accessed by a concealed stairway, is a gallery with access to two roof terraces, oriented to enjoy the sun at different times of day.

Villa Luz has three bedrooms, two with en-suite bathrooms and patio doors to the garden, and a room off the main living area that can be used as a study, family room or fourth bedroom. A wide set of patio doors leads out onto a sheltered, covered south-facing terrace, ideal for al fresco dining, and the pool area.
